Ivan is the lowest lat. forming hurricane.Frances tied or set records for the month of August.Most major hurricanes to form in the month of August.

1. ALEX was the furthest north a hurricane ever became a major hurricane.

2. CHARLEY was the earliest such a strong hurricane has struck FL.

3. AUGUST had a record number of named storms.

4. IVAN was the furthest south a hurricane ever became a major hurricane.

5. IVAN is the strongest hurricane for such a southern latitude in recorded Atlantic history.
