The NHC 48-hour position is very close to you as a Strong Category 2/Borderline Category 3. When's the last time a hurricane hit that area? Stay safe.

Yes, I think you're very likely to be affected. Make your preparations now, and stay safe when the storm comes.

Well, it appears that the prognosis has got significantly worse with a Cat 4 cane likely headed my way on Tuesday!

The last time a hurricane hit here was Allen in 1980 when was in Ohio. From what the folks here told me when I returned, it wasn't that big of a deal. The last significant hit was Janet in '55 which was originally forcasted to pass to our north and ended up with its center passing to our south. That's the hurricane most of the oldtimers here talk about. The really old folk also talk about the 1898 cane. Of course, I haven't heard them talk about that '98 cane lately because they're all dead (of old age!).

1898? WOW, people must really live longer than I thought down there.

Ummmm... what's the elevation of Barbados? Storm Surge with a Cat 4 is 13-18 feet and are you on the coast or inland(hopefully the latter).

Iván will unite his brother Charley and sister Frances to continue the destruction across the Atlantic Ocean. If this hurricane continues, Cat. 5 will be easy for it to reach; still it has a lot of very warm water to feed on. This will be one hurricane to remember, well, already is, but everyone that lives from Trinidad and Tobago, up to the Leeward Islands and the Greater Antilles should be very vigilant with this system. If you live in the middle of the Lesser Antilles, like Barbados, Guadaloupe, Martinique, and more should be preparing now for the arrival of the hurricane.

Barbados' highest point is 1115 feet (give or take a foot). I live about half-mile from the south coast but at an elevation of about 80 ft.

However I look at it, Barbados is going to get a pretty bad blow from Ivan unless it makes a very drastic change in course and/or intensity. :(

BTW, we do live long down here (in fact I recently heard that we have one of the highest percentages of centenarians the world) but not that long!

That's not so bad. Cat 4 winds aren't fun though. :(
