Btsgmdad is right. The recent trend is for the I storm to be destructive and a major hurricane. 2001 had Iris hitting Belize as a Cat. 4, 2002 had Isidore hitting Cuba, Yucutan, and the US Gulf Coast, and 2003 had Isabel hitting the outer banks as a Cat. 2.

With Alex and the southern hemisphere storm we can't deny global warming at this point...

I still don't think global warming has anything to do with this. I believe it is just a normal pattern the earth is going through. I bet the folks in the N.E. U.S.A. didn't think there is any global warming last winter.

You could make a case that this is evidence of the earth changing it's axis as easily as evidence of global warming.

Not through Days 3 and 4 at least. It's forecast to hit Hispanola as a Cat 4 after that and that will weaken it quite a bit, but I fully expect it to still be a hurricane when it moves back over water. The 5-day position is in the Southeast Bahamas.
