Question for the pros/amateurs about the trough/ridge

If the ridge to the north is still strengthening, how is she moving north into it? Is the trough coming down just stronger than the ridge so that the ridge is pretty much irrelevant regarding Frances?
Could someone please explain and elaborate a little for this weather nut who wants to learn? 8-)

The ridge isn't strengthening, it's weakening. Frances is near the western periphery of the ridge. At times, the ridge builds a little westward and Frances slows and moves westward for a bit. Then the ridge weakens some and Frances jogs northward, as it is now.

I guess I got confused when I saw someone mention the ridge strengthening. Thanks wxman. :)
