Weather bad in South Tampa

#1 Postby NateFLA » Mon Sep 06, 2004 2:14 am

I dont know how it is elsewhere, but this is the worst it has been in south tampa in 24 hours. Apparently bay is surging, and my friend on canal is saying water is at seawall and rising rapidly.

High tide is at 5:50 am! Bayshore is underwater completly from Rome to downtown Tampa. this also probablymeans extreme flooding on davis island.

Expecting this will be the most damage we'll see now: storm surge. Things are much worse than they were during the day, but still nothing compared to a full hurricane. Hopefully it wont get much much worse.

South St. Pete/Tampa Bay - Power went off briefly again at about 2:30 and woke me up. Here too, the heaviest winds yet (first I could strongly hear inside). TV reporting 60 mph. Water coming in the Bay, but still well below seawall here.

News has reported several times today that my neighborhood has been w/out power, but I only lost it for about an hour this afternoon, and this brief outage.

Winds have died down again, but looks like more feeder bands coming across T.V. and S.St.Pete.

Things very much so still picking up, first time I have seen sustained winds in this storm. Strong gusts, heavy rain, worst flooding in our street I have seen yet (usually doesnt flood)

Will check in later if battery backup holds.

I think they turned off the power downtown. I have my homepage set to the library and its not working. I'm in northwestern hillsborough and these are the strongest winds yet, I was sure Frances had become a hurricane again when I woke up. I can't see to much outside but I think we are starting to flood.

South Pinellas is also getting heavy weather this morning. They have the Skyway and Courtney Cambel causway closed. They just said they may have to close the Howard Franklin bridge as well. Lots's of storm surge flooding in Upper Tampa Bay due to the wind driven tide and surge.

I'm fine so far. Nothing but street flooding from the rain. On a lighter note, the boat is in the driveway and is gassed up. ;-)
