Tornado warning in Charleston, Colleton Counties ...

Rapid thunderstorm development has led to a possible tornado 8 miles E of Edisto Beach (near Seabrook Island) moving rapidly NW ... path of the storm include Seabrook Island, Edisto Beach, and Rockville ...

Already 5 tornado reports in South Carolina..

just got that on channel 2....circulation off in the atlantic.. rob fowler...i usually watch bill walsh with the weather but channel 4 for news....i like super doppler 5000...bill walsh kinda gets excited more than the others this time of year....he likes his new toys!

Channel 4 reported a tornado near port royal around 3 pm earlier today..... might be more warnings up eventually....

I got it right off the NWS wire ... Weathertap radar indicating very healthy shear parameters ... with gate to gate shear around 50-60 kts ...

This just blows my mind. I have been watching Frances' track and it seems like no where near us! Was she THAT big? ANd what the heck? Tornados? There are no basements here. Hurricane's I expected. Tornados, no. I miss my basement.
I am welcoming the rain though. GOt all my landscaping done and now I get to save on my water bill!

Generally most tornadoes associated with tropical systems are F0 or F1 strength ... enough to make for some very inconvenient times ... however, there are exceptions to that rule ...

Tropical Storm Beryl in 1994 (or the remnants) produced a record # of tornadoes in South Carolina (28) with several in the Midlands reaching F3 in strength ... hardest hit was Lexington, SC ...

The remnants of Hurricane Earl in 1998 produced several damaging tornadoes in the Lowcountry with the biggest one occurring in the Fairlawn Subdivision in Moncks Corner ...

I think TS Bonnie this year spawned a tornado in Fairfield, SC, too...saw some footage of that from my Raleigh news station.

last i heard frances topped out at about 100 miles wide!!! TWC forecast for charleston today (as of yesterdays forecast even) was 40mph winds and 1"rain...but she tracked more easterly it looks like...tornadoes haven't seemed to be mentioned too much with this storm...but i saw waterspouts 1 and 1/2 mnths ago in the jetties of chas. harbor coming in froma day of fishing! and that was just a thunderstorm (part of a front i think)

i meant to say 1000 miles wide!!! sorry for the edit

There were tornados from Bonnie on IOP, I know that. 2, I believe.
1000 miles wide! Holy Cow!

i think the 1000 was at her peak---someone help me out here---but rob fowler just said look out wadmalaw and john's island, etc. due to outgoing vs. incoming winds in a certain storm approaching edisto

The scope of Frances did, at one time, extend 1000 miles (cloud canopy) ...

That storm has slowed dramatically and is clearly rotating, even on base reflectivity ... unfortunately, due to some unknown problem, the CLX radar (CHS) isn't updating on a regular basis today ...

Fortunately, Weathertap is updating frames every 4 minutes ... (viewable until the Free Trial expires ... )...

you know, I've been having the same problem...I go to the NWS site and check out the Greer SC radar. Not quite the best time for our radar to go blink.

i guess there are no links directly to channel 2 vipir, channel 4 doppler, or channel 5 doppler 5000?

it seems like they are all regional...last frame i saw was at 6:55?

VERY INTENSE thunderstorm cluster in SW Charleston County ... for the first time today, frequent lightning observed ... this is a serious storm ... the tornado warning remains in effect for SW Charleston County for another few minutes, but MAY BE re-issued ...
