Winter Weather Statement

#1 Postby hurricanedude » Mon Sep 06, 2004 10:20 pm

Ok....got your attention...LOL
after the horrible weather FL has experienced this year...a lot of folks believe an active tropical season leads to a severe winter....if thats the case there will be a blanket of white covering the FL peninsula and Bahamas...LOL...
just a little humor to break up the arguments going on in here about Ivan...

That's alright. I'm from Chicago. The movers packed my snow shovel, so I'm all set!

Isn't there some magnificent Pacific storm viewing place on Vancouver Island, BC? Turo or something. I'm there, dude. No snow, like we might get in FLA.

Well---just another small part of many reasons that most of us should expect a bitterly cold winter--colder than in years. Many of us should see the white stuff that haven't seen it in recent memory. We are in for a doozy of a winter--but, this is for another forum...

probably not ...LOL ...but given a few significant cold shots we may have to worry about the citrus crop.

But with all the activity we have had this year in the tropics, a boat load of latent heat has been removed from the tropics and transported poleward which COULD imply quite a bit of high latitude blocking this winter ( a negative NAO and AO). With el nino coming on its going to be a helluva a ride this fall and into the winter regarding the evolution of the pattern.

Oh, I'm sure it's fine...I just was referring to my own ramble into winter.

NP Sean..It just sounded as if you thought it was "inappropriate" to post that in here....If it makes ya feel better..I would not be surprised to see a storm with snow down to the gulf this year, including you..hehehe

Speaking from past experience, recently-arriving Northerners still armed with their snow shovel can make quite a supplemental income during a freak Southern snowstorm :-)

(though, in the spirit of equal play, those Southerners with air conditioners for sale came in real handy a whole lot earlier in the year than I even thought I'd ever need one.)

personal, non-scientific observation from long ago:

I clearly remember the years in the 50's and 60's being active hurricane years and the "firing" of the smudge pots to heat the citrus groves.

It sounds like it is not the time to buy outdoor tropical plants.....

Actually, terry, You are exactly right. the 1960s were BIG hurricane years--especially 1969, the winters were coincidently severe.

That's what I love about this board....always learning new things. I've got the jacket out of the closet and ready to go by the way :-)
