Ivan -- 285/WNW ???????????
Ummm, maybe it is just me, but sometimes I wonder about the NHC. I think they sometimes throw themselves a bone. They said a WNW turn today and so they change the heading to 285/WNW when it's moving at 275 at the best. The last 12 hours have been .5N and 3.7W, hardly WNW. Maybe it's just me.

Sean in New Orleans wrote:It is definitely 275....Hey, Weather--I'm fairly concerned about Ivan, at this point, for us in New Orleans. I don't see anything that will be around in a week to block this system from going whereever the system wants in the Gulf.
I've very worried as well Sean. I don't have to tell you what a strong storm would do to this city. If Ivan can maintain even CAT 2 intensity into the Gulf, I think he could quickly become a CAT 4. The Gulf is just a breeding ground that has had no action pretty much all season. Some water temps are close to 90! I can only hope that if it is as intense as I think it is going to be that we get spared yet again. I don't mind taking the occaisonal hurricane, but I'd like something to come home to when we do.

some parts of New orleans are so bad though, they could use a little "cleansing"
There are places in that city even cops dontl ike to go. Im still trying to figure out why its so bad, but I know there are some very nice neighborhoods in N.O. away from the bad stuff.
whats it like to live there?

What's it like living here? Well, I'm from here, so it's home, to me. I love living here. Unfortunately, the crime you hear of is concentrated in poverty stricken urban areas--namely housing projects. This creates for serious urban issues. They are concentrated, though in areas where you and I would never really visit. I've lived here my entire life and have never really been a victim of crime. In the mid '70's, I remember as a child that our car got broken into at the Municipal Auditorium before they put up the iron fence there. But, that's it, for me. I've known some people to have some issues with crime. I only go to the Quarter a few times of the year--parking is too hard. I live in Uptown, and really enjoy my life here..love my neighbors, the beauty, and the trees everywhere.
Anyway, those in the Gulf, still need to watch Ivan closely--I don't feel good about this system. The average Joe can see how the NHC long-range forecasts are still flip-flopping. I would be very surprised if this system is not a Gulf storm. Whereever it goes, I do hope it steers clear of Florida.

Have u Forgotton about Charkey already.
he was around only 3 weeks ago.
No, I haven't. Thanks for the reminder though. I meant overall, the Gulf has had little to no activity in it and therefore the water remains very warm, especially in the central Gulf, a place Charley did not visit. Also, Charley barely even made it into the Gulf, just skirting the eastern most portion.
