UTMB actually concerned about Ivan...this far out?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

UTMB actually concerned about Ivan...this far out?

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Tue Sep 07, 2004 1:03 pm

Apparently, the higher-ups must be feeling edgy about Ivan and Galveston.

My boss called a little while ago and asked me to log in and check my clock in/clock out times online and make any necessary changes/corrections. She said the bosses above her wanted to be sure hospital employees' time sheets are accurate for payroll to process everything ASAP in case Ivan comes this way. She's less edgy about these things than I am (although S2K has certainly trimmed the edges since my first near-miss after moving here -- Hurricane Bret). I thought most of the other admininstrators were usually calm about storms also, so this surprises me, especially since he's not even in the GOM yet. They usually don't issue any kind of campus advisory/alert until the GOM track begins.

Personally, I don't see it...but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Maybe they're just getting all their ducks in a row because of the uncertain path Ivan is on, and the previous problems with Charley....?

UTMB = University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

Hey Duck, that's pretty interesting.

Being a former UT system employee ... I'm surprised they even know that Ivan may eventually threaten the GOM. This kind of awareness surprises me! And yes, it seems a bit premature.

Of course we should keep our eyes open, but I feel very confident that Ivan will not threaten us over here. A trough will pick it up. JMO

For those of you not familiar with GalvestonUTMB is on East end of the island at the very end.Patients can even get an ocean veiw.

Where the white area is by ferry road is UTMB
I'm not for sure but think Galveston is like 3 ft above sea level.

probably more edgey cause the storms this year are stronger& finicky.

It just seems odd they would be concerned when everyone is saying Houston is safe...

Wierd, that's all!

Actually, it varies, since the Seawall and the area behind it is build up 17 feet above sea level.

Dr. Neil Frank...

#13 Postby Raider Power » Tue Sep 07, 2004 2:06 pm

Dr. Neil Frank stated last night that folks in Houston should be aware of the storm given the track shown last night. While he did not forecast a strike on the upper Texas coast, he did not discount it either.
