Ivan maybe going through a bombing phase???

#1 Postby Matthew5 » Tue Sep 07, 2004 3:01 pm

Hurricane Ivan, is going through a bombing phase at this moment. As you can clearly see the hurricane now has a round cdo-Central dense overcast(Pick Ir Image to see(a). The shear over the system has went down over the last 3 hours by 5 to 10 knots(Pick(b). While at the same time a outflow jet/channel has formed on the northwest side of the tropical cyclone. This outflow jet is centered at 19 north/62.5 west...It has a max of 30 knot shear...This outflow jet is sharping the upper level ridge over the tropical cyclone. Which helps the system get ride of extra laten heat(Which then the system can reform more convection). What is forming this outflow jet is a upper low around 15 north/73 west(Pick(c). The eye has became much better defined over the last 2 hours/Deeper convection has formed around the eye. Recon earlier this afternoon found a system with pressures of 956 millibars...I'm making a call that this should bomb back into a cat4 with in the next 12 to 24 hours. Afterwards the upper level enviroment should become less favable for this tropical cyclone to bomb.

I'm going with strong CAT 2 or CAT 3 also. I believe that ULL to Ivan's west will shear him apart a bit.

Theres a trough coming out from the US that may cause some sheer on it as well. Definately till start to steer it more northerly.
