A Russian woman I like a lot told me *dasvedahyna* means...looking forward with joy until we meet again...you might want to say bye bye! :)

LOL - my Russian teacher in high school taught us dasvedahyna for good-bye...I only remember hello, goodbye, yes, no, airplane, and please in Russian, so that's the best I could come up with for what I'd like to say to Ivan!!!!!

Landfall? That point is still out in the Gulf.

PS-I spent quite a few hurricane seasons on the Ft Morgan peninsula throughout the '90's-it's beautiful up there!

Karebear wrote:I am also a newbie. I read more than I post, now I know why. A person can't even ask a serious question about the east coast without getting put down or made fun of. I thought this was a friendly and understanding board. I'll just keep browsing and just not ask a question, especailly if it pertains to the east coast. Thank you to those who do not put us newbies down with an honest but may be dumb question to you, but not us.

Karebear, this board is by far the most understanding board when it comes to this issue. I am a member of other weather message boards and sometimes what I bring up is not understood... mainly non-weather issues... on their off-topic forum.

Why not explain why it's likely not to happen rather than to call him a wishcaster. It makes others feel uncomfortable when wanting to ask questions pertaining to their area.

Yepper.

First off, great job, moderators!! I appreciate all you do in running this board and the website. A great resource.

That being said, I do not want this board to become xenophobic. I don't want it to get to the point that every newbie is grilled or accused of being a wishcaster. Some people are curious about wx and other people might be very concerned about their part of the world and looking for information. We don't need to shoot ourselves in the foot by chasing every new poster off the boards. Thats a disservice to people who may be in harms way and reflects very poorly on all of us.
