This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Last time ABC islands hit?

#1 Postby MGC » Tue Sep 07, 2004 11:21 pm

From the look of thing this evening, if Ivan don't start heading north he is on a collision course for the ABC islands. When was the last time the ABC islands had a major hurricane?...............MGC

Anybody know for sure?

Again, if this storm holds its heading for the next 24 hours it will pass about 60-100 miles north of the islands. A rough ride, but anything built to withstand a decent ordinary storm should take it.

BUT if it surprises and runs due west, this in my opinion will cause a mess in the ABCs.

The ABC and the SSS Islands were spared of nearly all consequences of tropical cyclones in 2001. Only a strong tropical wave, which later in the day became tropical storm Dean, caused heavy rains, gusty winds and high seas over the SSS Islands on August 22. For the first time since 1998, no issuance of tropical cyclone watches or warnings were necessary for either island group.

Actually, TD-10 (LATER ISIDORE) in 2002 passed close to the ABC islands.
