Remember...to determine if a snake is a king snake or the deadly coral snake...look at the banding pattern of red, yellow and black bands and remember this rhyme:

Red and Black...friend of jack.

Red and yellow...kill a fellow.

So in summary...
Red next to black..ok.
Red next to yellow...bad.

This is absolutely true. My niece went to sit on the toilet and found a HUGE snake sticking his head up from the bottom. He slithered back down but returned again in a few minutes. Sister called the plumber who said "no problem" and came to get the snake out. After seeing the size of it the plumber said "no way" and left! She had to call the FL Wildlife guys to get him out and it took hours. Thankfully it wasn't poisonous but the sheer size was intimidating.

But he came through the pipe on top of the house, not the sewer. Apparently it was missing the screen and he was looking for a cool dark spot.

Snakes are good! They eat rats and mice and insects! They typically wont come after you. They're just as upset about their homes being trashed by the storm as you are.

Snakes ARE good, as long as they stay out of your house. After a storm in the late 80's I found a little ground rattler sunning himself in a beam of sunlight that was landing on the wood floors in the spare bedroom. He was happy to be dry. And I felt for him.

But you can't co-exist with a ground rattler in the same house. He had to go.

i too hate snakes was bitten when i was young,thus am terrified of them..if you are having a problem simply line your drive ..around your house..etc.with about a 2 in line of powered "sulfer"..available at most home and garden centers..snakes will not cross this as it irriates their skin.. also does not kill them if you are worried about that...snake repellant contains the same thing but is more expensive..look for regular sulfer
