Ivan goes through the keys, rides all the way up FL with eye just offshore and slams in to Tampa or the panhandle....rides up the east coast from GA to VA..........

No offense, N.O. folks , not predicting this ...just pointing out my own opinion of the worst case scenario. 20 feet of water SITTING in downtown New Orleans with no way out would be it.

Worst case would be the raking of Florida.

Cleanup crews, utility crews, and others from out of state are there trying to offer relief. Along with the damage already done, this would be the worst case.

Since there is not much left of Florida to tear up, my worse case is New Orleans as a strong Cat 4 or 5. Next worst would be Tampa.....MGC

The scenario that scares the heck out of me is a large storm making landfall just north of St. Petersburg pushing a 20 foot storm surge into the funnel that is Tampa Bay. I don't live there anymore, but I know people who do.

new orleans always has been and always will be the worst case scenario until it is gone, either by a hurricane or a by a war or whatnot.

Worst case scenario is the slow moving storm into New Orleans. We, and I say we, because I workinn N.O., under many feet of water for well over a month. It would be simply impossible to live or move without a boat. It is the problem you have when you build a city BELOW sea level.

The levees keep the water out, and they would keep the water in.

No disrespect to any other part of the country. I want th is thing to do out to sea. It is looking far too serious. But if it has to hit somewhere, I do not want to see it near New Orleans as a cat 3, much less a cat 4 or 5.

The pictures and devastation would put the rest of what everyone has ever seen to shame.

So, as I said, I dont want it to hit anywhere, but anywhere but New Orleans at its current strength would be better than here.

....agree. New Orleans has NEVER seen anything like a direct hit of a strong CAT 4 or CAT 5. A hit near Grand Isle, La., and a NNW motion would completely destroy the Big Easy. The entire city would be submerged and the gulf coast would be near the Westbank. There is absolutlely NO hard land south of N.O., only marshland and this would have no impact on the strength of the storm.

I only hope that if this storm does head to N.O., people evacuate, and evacuate early. DO NOT TAKE THIS STORM FOR GRANTED.

Don't worry...those of us at ground zero are as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs this time every year.

I'm on a 3 hour standby...and can be on the road that fast should we sense danger.

The local EMA estimates at least 50K dead if we get the nightmare scenario and an uninhabitable city for at least 6 months. No way am I subjecting my family to that.
