What day this week will you start preparing for Ivan?

#1 Postby Ziplock48 » Wed Sep 08, 2004 1:23 pm

I am wondering when people on the board who are within or near the projected path of Ivan will start their "full scale" hurricane preps?

Considering the fairly fast forward motion at this time, even though current forcast models have been calling for a slo-down as steering currents weaken, I'm afraid that people may not begin soon enough, especially after Frances' snail pace.

Ivan may come in a lot faster than Frances.

Floridians are burned out, for sure. Who is taking a "wait and see"approach?

I'm pretty much prepared. I'll decide if and when to put the shutters up Friday or Saturday.

The strength determines how far inland I'll go.

I'm sure I'll end up at Publix tomorrow - kinda need to go anyway...when I do that, I'll make sure my tank is full. That'll be about it for me. Most of our plywood is still up, so we won't put the last of it back up until we're under a warning.....

its not a matter of preparing anymore. There is hardly anything on these shelves.

this will be an absolute disaster if this thing comes here.

Its hard enough find something/somewhere to eat.

Chris, I enjoyed your posts up to and through Frances. I'm so sorry that your area got hit so damn hard. Hang tough, because it is all you can do, at this time.

Good luck finding hot food. I remember bursting into tears about ten days after Andrew, when I found a restaurant that was open, Not! They had just locked the doors, and would not open them for any reason, certainly not to a bedraggled person like me just having come from the war-zone after digging through rubble all afternoon.

It really stinks.

The good thing about Frances was the amount of time we had to prepare...although that did not mean you could find what you needed in the stores. This time...store supplies will be limited in most of South and Central Florida....that will be interesting if Ivan comes our way.

Our Albetsons got a new shipment in, shelves are fully stocked except for dairy.. I still have 3/4 tank of gas. Ya know Walgreens Celebrity canned ham is really good and so is the canned roast beef. a litlle pricey but worth it when fresh isnt available.

Shutters are ready. Lots of water. Might have to go and get a few more canned goods, but I will wait until Ivan gets a little closer and we have a better idea of where it is going.

Will go to Publix tomorrow and get more ravioli and stuff for hummus. more olive oil, more TP, more water, more tea bags.
will get stuff to make pita bread and will bake on friday night.

shutters will go up as soon as we know we're in the path; takes about 90 minutes for all of them if we all pitch in.

what to do with dogs if Cat 5? cant imagine anyone going to feed dogs at a kennel in that mess. any suggestions?

I still have the shutters up except a couple. Still stocked up from Frances. I never lost power, thank God! So it's a trip for gas tomorrow or Friday and a quick trip to top off the non-perishables.

Most of my shutters are still up, just need to replace some canned food, have plenty of ice and frozen bottled water from Frances prep. just need to top off the tanks in the trucks and I'm good to go (again) :D

We're still ready from pre-Charley and then Frances. I'll make some more blocks of ice and run to Publix Thurs.

Hoping a shipment of generators arrives in a day or two. They're bringing them in all over the US, including west coast.

My wife has shifts Saturday and Sunday at the hospital and I'm not leaving her behind. So, if we're in it in NOLA, I'll board up Sunday, load the truck and wait for her to get home to depart. Hopefully the roads won't be too jammed 3 days out from landfall.
