Well, Hurricane Charley went right through western Cuba on it's way to Florida and he didn't weaken at all.

Nobody finds glee in Ivan becoming a killer. We are all in awe of such a natural accuring event, but we don't wish for a hurricane to kill anyone. You have to understand the difference

The pressure always goes down and the winds then follow.

its fine to get excited about a natural event. Its not as if we can control these htings. We can only stand in awe of their power and get out of the way as they make their presence known.

That 9 degree temperature differential between the outside and inside of the eye is the highest it has been. That suggests that the storm is indeed strengthening.

Local weatherman out of Pensacola showed a line that ended somewhere in between Tampa Bay, FL and Punta Gorda best I could tell. He didn't mention any cities by name - just said it's looking like Florida again.

Wrong!

14.5 north/69.0 west with winds at 60 degrees at 50 knots...

4mb drop, not good whatsoever. Winds staying the same isn't necessarily good, because pressure is what matters. Looking at the satellite images, Ivan is moving fast and furious. I haven't had much time to look at the environment in front of the system, and can only say the 5pm discussion offers a bit of hope with weakening forecasted in the eastern gulf. Now.. that wouldn't help Jamacia or Cuba.

I say Ivan bottoms out at 925mbs... just a guess.

It's gonna be what it's gonna be. And people just naturally feel a need to express their personal feelings about such things....

Here in Myrtle Beach they are saying it is bright and sunny now with a few showers expected but a beeeeuuutttiful weekend coming up. Ivan they are watching but too soon to make a judgement.
But then again, they have been instructed NOT to say anything bad, so the tourists will flock. The Chamber of Commerce tends to get real angry when they talk about a hurricane threat. Scares the golfers. Imagine that...

artinla... I think I remember Frances only having either a 6 or 7 degree difference. Not too sure about that, but at its best it certainly wasn't 9 degrees!
