Women in Combat positions

#1 Postby azsnowman » Wed Apr 02, 2003 5:28 pm

Hoooo Doogies, I'm probably going to open a can of worms with THIS ONE BUT.......do you believe women should be allowed in combat situations? Myself, NO....why? PLEASE don't take this wrong however, I cannot see a woman in a combat roll, sorry, they don't belong there. I KNOW, I KNOW, this is the age of equal rights, womens lib. so on and so forth, I don't agree with the old "A womans place is in the home" bull crap, women DO have the right to do what they see fit for themselves and to do what they feel comfortable with. COME ON NOW.....let's be NICE about this, I apologize before hand if I have ruffled any feathers with this post I just wanted to put this out for a debate not a flaming session  You opinions please!

I believe It's their choice to be in the Military and respect them as I do all our troops.

I agree Johnathan, but at the same time I was brought up in an era when women were not allowed anywhere near a combat zone. So at times my "always protect the woman" demeanor kicks into higher gear and I start to debate myself about it all over again!

I personally don't believe women should be in combat but I am from the old school. If they want to go ahead, fine but it's definitely not for me.

Coming from raw emotion, Dennis, I'd agree with you; but, at the same time, some of our best fighter pilots are women, along with MP/SPs, supply clerks, cooks, weapons-mainenance, operational mechanics, flag officers, operational officers in USN task forces, etc., etc.

The question to serve, after all, is up to them...and unlike Iraq, no one is holding a gun to their heads.

I have a good friend named Melissa and she served in Operation Desert Storm...so yes, I think it's up to the woman if she wants to serve in the military.

Yet again another controversial thread from Dennis. Hmmm.

Anyway, I believe it is up to the woman who wants to enlist. The women that were captured were not leading this convoy that took the wrong turn however, it was led by men.

I deleted that last post, it was disrespectful to the men and women who died in that ambush, please accept my most sincere apologies.

i'm not anti-woman either, but i don't think women should be in the front lines at all. Just my point of view.

That is true. Not a laughing matter. Especially since how they died was horrific and inhumane.

Most are physically incapable of performing the same tasks as men due to strength considerations. They cannot carry as much of a payload. Therefore, I have to say NO!

Okay Derek... I challenge you to an arm wrestling match. Or better yet, go to one of our Army Bases, Navy Bases, AF Base, Marine Bases... walk right in there and I dare you to challenge any female officer to an arm wrestling match.

Not to mention that during boot camp, women get NO special treatment and have to jump the same hurdles as the men do. They have to go through 6 weeks of physical training. Seems that women are meeting that physically challenged boot camp because women are on the front lines right alongside the men.

LOL Linda, HOW true! I'm here to tell ya, Michelle can whup my butt in a heartbeat, I'm 6'4" tall, Michelles 5'2" tall and weighs about 130 lbs LIGHTER than myself. She was a Hot Shot for the forest service, a lot of MEN couldn't hang with her crews. NOW, back to the topic, like I had posted before, I had the honor to meet the first female combat pilot for the USN back in 1978, she flew the very first, what was then the NEW XF-18 Hornet, when she first stepped off the plane, I thought, "My goodness, how did she find the ship, she's a BLONDE!" "LOL!" Sorry ladies, couldn't resist that one!

The last time this came up I said no and I still feel that way. :-) Right, wrong or indifferent I'm old school and have my white horse stabled out back.

The Argument

#20 Postby Aslkahuna » Wed Apr 02, 2003 11:07 pm

about the strength and capabilities of Servicewomen was settled for me many years ago at Osan AB. I watched a Security Exercise at the special weapons storage facility. There I saw a young woman SP on Perimeter Security who was about 5-5 and 120-130 lbs flip a man who was 6-4 and over 200 lbs over her back and onto his and had him looking up the barrel of a fully loaded and cocked M-16 in no time at all.
