The pressure is definitely dropping inside of Ivan tonight---just by looking at satellite we can see this. Do we already have a category 5?? That satellite image hints at it, IMO.

Grrr, how can he do that?! With all that air he is drawing from SA instead of sea. Somebody posted that the sea temperatures in this area can only support Cat 3/borderline Cat4. Huh!

well chad, with grenada leveled, the bahamas trashed, death and destruction in richmond, and florida crushed, i can find nothing good about seeing a 170+ cane about to kill people. i can find no beauty in that at all.

Ummmm a little shear can disrupt even the most structured of systems, Cat 4-5 need perfect environments to be able to maintain that intensity..... anything otherwise could jeopardize(ken jenningize)the delicate structure of the system........

Those posts reference the "Maximum Potential Hurricane Intensity". It's statistically correct but not in all cases. It's ideally modelled and subject to error - as are all such things. Use it to place bets and you'll win most of the time.

It's not only the sea temps. Those alone can support a category 5. Plus, conditions may have changed since the calculation was performed.

It is a "perfect hurricane" on satellite imagery. I am assume that is what Hyperstorm is getting at.

Of course hurricanes aren't perfect for what they do.
