You may want to remember one more thing, which is disturbing if you think about it. The water temps where Ivan is are only suppose to support a 130-135 mph hurricane (Cat 3/4). Ivan is bombing into a powerful cat 5, and he isnt even in the warmest waters of the Caribbean. Once he gets past Jamaica, I can't imagine what will occur.

Melhow, some stations were probably showing the 11:00 PM forecast track from last night.

Well, at least tornadoes wont be much of an issue, as they wouldnt matter (windspeeds in the hurricane would be higher than the tornadoes).

Just got up to take my daughter to school, looked at the IR loop and it looks like its moving 290-300. Unless I'm mistaken that's still WNW.

Lucky you. I am in Brevard County. We didn't see meat or dairy till yesterday, and in very limited quantities. Gas is still an issue here. Many business here are hurting big time. I was told not to report for work for at least a week while the buildings are repaired and the phone systems are restored (this will get worse pending Ivan). Port Canaveral is not able to take ships at all at this point. Many of us here are out of work on top of everything else. The local economy is losing a million dollars a day just from Port Canaveral alone. Brevard is highly dependant on the tourist trade.

yes, amen. Even while my thoughts and fears are too easily focused on Florida, I am praying for Jamaicans.

1) that Ivan would miraculously weaken/turn away
2) that people would be directed to the safest/strongest shelters that can survive this storm and heed the warnings
3) for peace and an assurance of God's presence and love even in the midst of such a crisis.

may the Lord keep you in Jamaica safe no matter what happens.

Nobody has thought of this? A report of 210mph just above the surface at 300+ft indicates that if this system were to strike Jamaica TODAY with those winds, the mountains in Jamaica will experience total demolition...

cmon, just go to publix, they are well stocked by now. i live in Ne broward which was hardest hit by frances and work in dade and have had no trouble since tuesday finding what i need. I had a juicy steak last night from publix and fresh fish the day before.

I beg to differ with you. Brevard was the hardest hit county. My reasoning? 124mph wind gust at Port Canaveral.

Winds will not demolish a mountain. Let's try to say within reason.

Damage from winds of over 200 mph is equal to an atomic bomb being dropped.Think of Hiroshima and Nagasoki
