Nhc forcasts continue to mention a 3-5 foot storm surge for Warning areas...is this because all of the warning areas have deep water to their Southern exposure, therefore no shallow shelf to allow the surge to build up?
And, do you think this is giving anyone in US in areas at greater risk of" about Ivan, and he won't make a surge?
Florida bay is a very large and extremely shallow area adjacent to the southern tip of florida, and to the west of the Keys. I can only imagine the kind of surge that could boil up to the N and E of the eye...to me, it looks as if ALL of mainland Monroe County, including Evergaldes National Park, and a whole lot of South Dade County could be flooded. Collier county if landfall or passage further West.
Thoughts? Anybody have a MEOW map for a landfalling Hurricane at Cat 4-5k approaching Florida over Florida Bat? (note: Florida Bay is not the same as Biscayne Bay, which is to the East of Miami, and, which is also shallow and recorded a surge of just over 16' with the passage of Andre's northern eye wall near SW 176th Street at Old Cutler Road).
