Western GOM High not that Strong?

#1 Postby HouTXmetro » Thu Sep 09, 2004 12:15 pm

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html

Keep in mind I really don't know how to read these maps. But right now it does not APPEAR that it's pushing any further out into the GOM. At least in the area right under the LA/TX coastline. Is another Front or system suppose to enhance this Ridge?

All indications are the high will continue to build. I think western gulf is safe (for now anyway), no one is talking about anything west of MS or AL.. Things could change

The High is building, but not further south. It's building east to me and about to choke off the trough remnants of Frances with the Bermuda High.

In your opinion, HouTXmetro, what implications would this have on Ivan and his track? :?:

AGAIN..... I DON'T PROFESS TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FORECASTING.

But here is my educated guess. People have said that the trough should pull Ivan north. However, based on the WV loop it appears the two Highs are about to choke off the trough and merge. If this does happen I think Ivan will slow and will be stuck between the two Highs. Depending on which High is stronger, IVAN will either move very slowly NW-W- or even SW. That's just an educated guess. How did I do?

ANY THOUGHTS?

I am not a forecaster either, but your explanation makes sense to me. Thanks for being so kind to respond to my question. Hope all is well in the Houston area. 8-)

It does look like Ivan will get "stuck" between two Highs. Looks like another very difficult forecast is ahead for the NHC. I just pray those island nations are somehow spared a Cat 5 storm....... I can only imagine the stress Florida residents are going thru also....... Two hurricanes in one season is the worst I've seen, and that was plenty!
