my husband is a salary worker for a company.....we were in miami for frances, and kept in touch with his "boss" the whole time. we called every day to get an update on whether we had electricity or not. On tuesday morning, we found out we had power again, so we started packing the cars and heading north that afternoon.

turns out, his boss was pissed that he didn't show up to work tuesday morning as soon as he knew they had power.

just our lil story

Working for the Government maybe safe in this economy, but they are a cold and heartless employer when it comes to these times of disaster. It has been terrible.

Does FEMA funding help with wages lost during a declared disaster? I would ask FEMA, but have not been able to get through. As a former Florida career counselor, I know that the rules for unemployment are relaxed during a declared disaster, especially for farmers and other self-employed folks. Filing is tough, though. It must be done manually, as state offices are powerless or the computer systems are down.

I work for a major credit card company and they have been awesome! We closed early the Friday before both canes and got paid for our full shift. We were paid time 1/2 for the 2 days after Charley (scheduled or not) and also time 1/2 if we worked on Tuesday after Frances. Employees scheduled to work the weekend of Frances were paid for their shift, and we weren't penalized if we couldn't come in due to power outages.....my employer is all about us!! :D
