The strange thing is that I was in Darwin in 1986--and you never would have guessed it was leveled by a hurricane. Of course, everything in the city was relatively new--and quite obviously so. But from the accounts I have read about Tracy, Darwin wasn't all that big a city in 1974. When I visited in 1986, it was a good sized city--significanty more populated than it appears to have been in 1974.

By the way, I didn't say I wasn't making any hurricane preparations, I just said that your forecast track was music to my ears. I do not disagree with you, but what do you think of this:

Even though I am new, I can tell you that no one is exactly sure. Alot of people here make very educated guesses based on maps, models, ect but until it gets closer, who knows. Just pay attention and watch and read. By reading and going to the links that the weather pros here provide it becomes somewhat easier to figure out what they mean. There are MANY intelligent and weather educated people on this board so you will learn alot if nothing else, but as to where it is going, well, take a dart close your eyes and throw. Anywhere near Fla. and the Gulf coast you will be close.

i was just wondering if that is accurate.....and does anyone have a link to a news source, etc. that may be able to tell me what the US might be up against?

Man, that shows a tight swirl. If I lived in Jamaica, I'd be digging a hole to hide in.

It will hit somewhere in Florida.

Please don't ask me to narrow it down.

Ivan now moving around 295

#2492 Postby Vortex » Thu Sep 09, 2004 6:09 pm

Based on the latest recon fixes and satellite images the last 3-4 hours especially Ivan is now moving between Wnw and Nw...This has been predicte by several models and a direct hit to the island of Jamaica is likely. There is even some chance the core could pass just barely north of the island but the key here is Ivan is now moving betwee 290-300 with a net of 295.

Cape Verde that's not correct. When you post a picture it does take up bandwidth. Links do not.

Yep... 90% of the homes damaged or destroyed. A prison was damaged and all the inmates have escaped. Cable News has been showing images all day. REMEMBER: It was only a Cat 3 when it hit there AND their buildings aren't made to withstand hurricanes like here in the U.S.

Do you think that Ivan will continue this motion or do you think it will slowly go back to WNW over time?

I'd think two global models showing a direct hit on Miami would be more than enough reason to begin preparations, regardless of what any other forecaster might believe.

Especially a forecaster who strongly ruled out ALL of Florida just 2 days ago.

The DT "trend" is East, so if the trend is your friend... look out.
