Wow. Has a hurricane or typhoon ever crossed over an erupting volcano? Wonder what would happen there.

marilyn did at monserrart in 1995.

What happened was the residents had to take shelter from marilyn near the erupting volcano

Mt. Pinatubo erupted 25 times in 1991 ... just after the strongest of the 25 eruptions, a typhoon struck the Philippines within a week, in which, the rain mixed with the ash kinda creating a mud-like rain and only further aggravated things ...

So buildings that have been weakened by the quake will not stand up well to cat 4 winds...not good. Any reports of quake related damage? Even a close call from Ivan could now totally level they Caymans. Keep these poor folks in your thoughts and prayers!

110 miles south of Georgetown. I wouldn't get too excited. Earthquakes happen all over the world to the tune of many every day.

Certainly, the quake has zero to do with Ivan.

110 miles away from the Cayman islands would probably result in very little damage. The depth is 19 miles too, so it's a very deep earthquake and not capable of damage far from the epicenter. Would have to worry about tsunamis though from such a large earthquake offshore, but have heard of none so far.
