Eastern Ohio Flooding

#1 Postby ohiostorm » Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:52 am

We just had the worst flooding we've experienced for many years. My little town was completely shut down for most of the night last night. The rain started Tuesday night a little after midnight and didn't stop until well after midnight last night. Some places recieved well over 6" of rain. I tried to get into Jewet (my town) and noone was allowed in because there was no way out. Every street was flooded. This morning I grabbed my video camera and headed out to see what was going on. It was a disaster. Town was still under water. People were trying to cleanup. There was water in places Ive never seen it before. Friends house that before had seen very little flooding were completely under water. FEMA and county emergency people were in inspecting damages. Officials had to pump 70 homes. Some houses had 6 or more feet of water in it. We didn't experience much flooding at my house so we spent most of the day in town helping out friends. Red Cross was in to a few local towns to help people get out. Many towns were evacuated. Frances was a pain! We are not ready for another one yet. People were complaining and I just stood there and was like, this was the weakest the storm has been. Just think what its like down south where she made landfall! Makes you wonder what they really are like. Hopefully everyone gets cleaned up and ready for the next one. Wont take much to flood us again.

How's my family's cottage? It's kind of up on a hill but there is a creek that runs in front of it.
