#1 Postby dixiebreeze » Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:12 pm

today. Never saw this county so full of traffic, emergency and repair crews. Progress Energy is stopping some elec. work 'till after Ivan decides what he will do. Right now, the track is just along Tampa Bay and right into my backyard! :x  :)

Yeah, its ridiculous to have a gas ration in this situation. It would be fine if people were expected to stay at home, but safety requires a long trek in your automobile.Only a full tank will do

Is that a local government thing (County) or is this an independant gas station thing?

It's an EOC "thing." State umbrella. It's 5 gal. at a time, so I guess one can keep going back for more at this point. I know folks are filling cans for generators, etc.

FEMA has been absymally slow in getting supplies here to Citrus County and there are still thousands without power since last weekend!

Local businesses are donating trucks to go to Jax for water and ice, etc. and MRE's. But it's a very slow process. Our State Sen. Nancy Argenziano finally got really mad and gave FEMA H---. a couple days ago and tried to jump start them.

I know it's tough throughout Florida, but there wasn't much communication/coordination here, apparently.

Is it 5 gallons a day per person? You better believe I'd be recruiting neighborhood kids to go up and get "their" share.

They announced on 970 am in Tampa just 20 minutes ago that their were gas rationing rumors going around that were untrue. Governor Bush said that there is no rationing in effect currently in the state of Florida.

He said that what's happened is that he secured power for them to prioritize certain emergency/infrastructure vehicles to get the gas first after the storm, if needed.

...hope that report was correct...!

This is NOT true! There are no official rationing orders from the State or any local EOC offices. The rumor mill is really running fast and local media (here in the Tampa Bay area) are trying to shut it down.

Amazing how fast these things get started!

There's a prominently posted hotline number on this page. There's tons of information here, and I'm sure the hotline would be helpful for dispelling or confirming rumors.

FWIW, I looked carefully, and I saw nothing about gas rationing.

Okay, I fell for it too, and bought 40 dollars worth of gas. Its a hoax. Whoever started it needs to get kicked in the teeth.

LilyV, no, nothing on that site about rationing. It is also impossible to get through any of those phone numbers. No one is answering phones here, apparently. Cest la Vie......

http://www.myflorida.com/

One other site, and I read through the Hurricane Frances resources, as well as the emergency response briefings-no mention of rationing. Tons of phone numbers there, as well.

I hope this helps. Floridians have enough to worry about, without having to worry about possible rationing rumors. And, if a station has implemented rationing on it's own, there are probably rules within the state to keep such situations from getting out of hand.

Apparently the rationing news was announced on a local radio station this morning early and does not appear to be confirmed by authorities -- as yet. The station is NOT answering their phones.
