Local News...ect

#1 Postby MBismyPlayground » Fri Sep 10, 2004 5:03 pm

Just would like some feedback/opinions on this.
I am sure all of you have been watching your own local news ect. And usually, I would like to assume, the BIG story all over is IVAN,or should be, correct????
Well here in good old Myrtle Beach they began the news with NO mention of Ivan what so ever, and began with the local school system.
What is wrong with this town anyways?? They spent a total of about one min. on it and nothing. As if it was not important that this thing could impact so many people!!!!

I guess the local forescasters are obeying the powers that be,(burroughs and chapin) and not saying anything derrogatory that would effect the tourists/golfers.....

Well, they may not have had Ivan as the lead story because if he comes here (I also live in MB), it will not be for another six days or so. Plus the track is not really know after 48 hours. There will be plenty of time to prepare starting Sunday night if Ivan looks to be heading this way.

AND the public schools of SC just ranked fiftieth in SAT scores. Some attention needs to be paid towards improvement. Although here in Chucktown, Bill Walsh always starts with a "look at the tropics."

I live in North mrytle beach and about all the forecasters in the area is getting some kind of "bonus"if they give Mrytle beach a good forecast.Tourist is BIG busness on the beach.Look at Hurricane Charley(sp)
one forecaster said we will only get 25 to 40 mph winds and it will not be a Hurricane when it the SC coast.Well we got a Hurricane. So get all your info from the web or weather channel.

Time for a revolt, Bud. 2, 4, and 5 all start with weather here in Charleston and we have a large tourism business like you. Time to start writing some letters to the director.

Speaking of clueless tourism directors, I just got a spam fax advertising a Disney Vacation for $99 (3 nights, 4 days in Orlando) and every purchase receives 2 days and 2 nights in choice of Jamaica (!) Cancun or Las Vegas... "Hurry!"

Yeah... right. Just where I should be right now...

There are all sorts of ads running up here for cruises, and other stuff that are totally inappropriate, but I guess the clueless will come to the conclusion that these things are okay since the ads are current...

The Today show is throwing a dream detination wedding- I believe in October. The public has 4 places to vote from. One is the Biltmore estate. I could be wrong, but I was sure that area of NC had some major flooding from Frances. If I am wrong, I apologize.

It is NOT about it coming here. It is about all of the LIVES that this storm will impact. As if those lives that are not located in SC don't count?????This is a gigantic storm and a gigantic story and I think it should be important to ALL, regardless of exactly whom it affects!!! I am so tired of the ME ME ME way of thinking....... :(
