This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Big low pressure system in the Atlantic?

#1 Postby TyphoonTim » Fri Sep 10, 2004 5:51 pm

I am looking at the latest WV loop and can't help but notice the large low pressure system at about 60° west and 30° north. This thing is racing in, now seemingly taking a bit of a SW turn. Looks like it will come very close to Florida about the same time Ivan is forcast to be coming that way too. I am wondering what effect this LP will have on Ivan? Will it push Ivan, pull Ivan, or what?

I would think it builds the high back further to the west, causing the current trough in the NE Gulf, to either wash out, or pull back to the NW, toward Mississippi.

I am, by far, no expert, but that is JMO.

That is the ULL that is predicted to weaken the bermuda high. It is causing a weakness down flow in the ridge that will allow Ivan to punch northward.
here is a steering flow map...

I have posted many topics on this in the past few days... people are split between the high strengthening, and weakening... i guess we shall see soon enough.
