#1 Postby yoda » Sat Sep 11, 2004 1:08 am

Folks, I AM REALLY SORRY for posting the apparent hoax vortex. It appears I have been had by one of my friends. I hope it the vortex is true... but it appears it is not.

Again, I AM SORRY for what happened... please forgive me.

Still doesn't explain why TWC reported the same thing right after it was posted on the forums.

Your friend probably only told you what so many of us have already said....Dave Schwartz of the Weather Channel reported that...he said...the latest recon report showed 905 mb with 187 knot flight level winds....
As I've said...this may have been an erroneous report...but it's not a hoax...Many of us heard it

Weather Channel is on overnight loop. You may see it in 27 minutes, you may not. Hopefully they'll have Mr. Schwartz or someone come out then and fix this mess.

No problem--you didn't know..just trying to be an informative poster, which is what I like, actually. Nice of you to apologize when it really isn't necessary.

What in Gods name I got that vortex off of this site right here. http://nimbus.met.tamu.edu/cgi-bin/post-weather

And it said exactly that at which it does there. I dont know how I did not see that it was that ob 29 which should have been a dead give away but I was so astounded by the wind and pressure and gave it to yoda right away to post. I thought it was real because something like this has never happend with that site. It has always been reliable site for me. And I check it offten. I cant believe that something like this could happen.

So what I guess is this. Between 1:30-2:00 AM someone was able to get in there and change the vortex to try and freak everyone out. At which time TWC, me, and many other people got that recon that freaked us out. I dont know who did this but it is really seems kind of stupid. I got it and gave to yoda and he said "Are you sure about this", and I said "Yes I am sure, unless it is a severe typo". So he posted that. After the nimbus team found that on there they quicly deleted it and fixed it.

But if it was a hoax. How in gods name did they say it on the weather channel. Unless they are board readers which they most certainly should not be.

I dont know what to say, but I should have been much more careful and checked this info twice before giving to yoda. I am completyley and with out a doubt sorry and I hope that yall can forgive me. I feel terrible.

TWC in 1992 when the disturbance that became edouard formed told everyone on the air the final vortex message for cristobal, then merely said later reports were not as imprevvice
