water vapor

#1 Postby wasup254 » Sat Sep 11, 2004 7:23 am

Does the High pressure have to move out of the way totally or can it just retreat a bit to move Ivan to the north? Will the west component still be there, or can he move directly north? My worry is that it slows and then makes a drastic change in the movement. I notice the high is moving and digging SW...a novice here to say the least, but a worried one

Thanks

I was just talking about the same thing on another post. The WV loop looks to me like lots of dry air is pushing to the SW, over Cuba and now over Grand Cayman. This is starting to affect the NW quadrant of Ivan based on the WV appearance on that side. Also see a "V" shaped notch digging in the west side of Ivan, possibly dry air getting sucked in?

I wish I had the answer. The dry air pushing SW is definitely reducing Ivan's outflow to the west. But it doesn't appear to be stopping Ivan, maybe just slowing down a bit and delaying that eventual northern turn.

Strong storms create ridging. This is what looks to be happening with Ivan. I guess this is what they call....creating it's own atmosphere.
