Looks like he's back to the predominately west movement.

How WIDE is Ivan?

#4263 Postby charleston_hugo_veteran » Sat Sep 11, 2004 12:20 pm

I am a bit confused with this...if there is TS force winds 175 miles out, does that means 1 side or total? If total, does that mean the whole hurricane is 350 miles wide??

It means they extend out 175 miles from the center.

Hurricanes typically aren't symetrical windfield wise...so maybe the TS winds extend 175 at one point, but only 100 miles at another point.

But when they say 175, they mean in one direction, not across the whole thing.

They are both dictators (IVAN and Fidel,) and the Russians have long supported the Cubans.

As a side note, why would they choose Ivan as a name? Just too easy a set up for 'Ivan the Terrible' when the eventual bad Ivan came along. Maybe they can replace Ivan with Idi, and insert Adolph and Pol into the rotation.

Yeah, I've been listening. Reports of looting, and already a few deaths(including a baby.) Contaminated water system and food and water in the shelters is short.

Interesting, I would assume since the eye is bigger now the pressure would rise a little bit, as there is more room to work with. Common Sense.

Guess it could be picking up some steam again.
