Latest WV loop shows storminess between the ULL in the Atlantic and the coast of Florida..This is a sign that the high is weakening somewhat..

There is now one ridge with some clockwise rotation centered north of the Yucatan. The large ULL to the NE of the high is almost stationary. The high pressure ridge is flowing south through the Bahamas then around to the west pulling Ivan towards the Yucatan channel. That large atlantic ULL looks like it may be trapping the ridge Ivan is embedded in and keeping it west for the time being.

If that is truly an ULL in the Atlantic, where is the convection coming from?

Could that be another storm in the making?

Not if it weakens the high..High pressure is sinking air which keeps storms from popping up..If storms are popcorn popping like they are now where high pressure is supposed to be, that high pressure is weakening.

Upper level lows have convection. There has been no surface low mentioned in the advisories? There is a lot of shear where the ULL meets the high pressure flow so it is unlikely anything would get started in that location.

Hial,

Thanks, I learned something new today! It is confusing that the convection appears to be rotating counter-clockwise.
