Projected Track moving west
I live in Vancleave, Ms north of Ocean Springs. I am getting concerned, that this may make a B-line for the Ms/Al border and catch a lot of people unprepared. So much focus has been on Florida and I haven't heard any weather met mention the rest of the Gulf Coast. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

WWL started with Ivan at the 5pm newscast, and John Gumm came on and said 'we are not out of the woods yet," that there is a possibility it could make it to LA, though not a high possibility. That's way different from what they were saying around here last night.
I'd like to visit the WWL forums, but they make you register for the whole WWL site, and I'm not in the mood for that right now. But just go to http://www.wwltv.com and navigate to the forums.

I'm starting to sweat it a bit. Yesterday I drove to Starkville (4 hours) to see my beloved Bulldogs get Cat 5'd by the Awbunn Tigers today, and was stuck in traffic averaging about 3 mph because of a wreck a few miles up the interstate that covered the entire road.
If that is what evacuating is going to be like (and I'd be evacuating back to Starkville) then I am fooked.
So when I drive back to the coast tomorrow, I'll be double checking the hurricane kit and making sure everything is as ready as it can be this far out. I even got a pass from the folks to skip out on going to Mass with them this time
so I can get back early to do all that.

Being the nice guy I am, I'll go duct tape your windows up, so that when Ivan strikes, glass shards will be flying around sticking to people and things.

As far as new orleans goes, I wonder how far out the officials will start calling for school closings and evacuations. Even if it looks to be headed to Mobile, say, I figure they might start advising evac of areas south of new orleans for sure, given the upredictablility of the thing. A cat 5 in the Gulf can make the whole coast nervous, regardless of the projected path and probablities. Not any time soon, mind you, but should it get into the central to east-central gulf.
P.S. I'll really start to worry about NOLA if they drag Nash and his felt tip pens out of retirement!

Dad and I worked out an installation plan. He said if you deviated from it ONE. BIT. then I am to shoot you in the azz with a nail gun.
And hey, I got a very pretty spankin' new DeWalt cordless drill out of the deal.

Frank P wrote:not really worried yet here in Biloxi, posted on Monday Mobile and over to 25 miles east as my early projection for a possible landfall... might end up being a lucky guess after all.... never know, steering currents after 24 hours look kinda screwy.... He's still on a pronounced WNW track
I hate to see anyone get this beast, but I sure hope its not the areas in Florida that have already been hit .... maybe their luck will hold out on this one... no one deserves multiple hits....
From an Orlando resident, thanks!
As much as I would like to have seen this b4stard become a fish and not hurt anybody, I must say that it is a great sigh of relief that it appears we are almost out of the cone of possibility. We can't take a third beating! We need to get back to our lives and stop preparing every week for a major Hurricane, losing power at our homes and businesses for days (twice now), and sitting in gas lines for hours on end (twice now).

I'm pretty far inland(300 miles), but I'm getting very concerned about a high wind event here. Opal in 1995 came ashore as a Weak Cat 3 near Pensacola and produced 90 mph gusts up here. I'm starting to think a Cat 4 at landfall in the Panhandle isn't that far off. I'm not freaking out yet because the track still takes the center east of me(weak side), but much more of a westward shift and I'll be in the worst part.
We don't even need rain here. 2.5" inches from Frances, a half-inch from rain this afternoon and other rains earlier.
