That's a beautiful image - it's amazing what Frances did to the waters both E and W of the FL peninsula. If Ivan manages to track between Ft. Meyer's and the big bend (which I'm thinking is less and less likely now), there would be less of a chance of a strong cat 4 or 5 in there. If this SOB goes as far west as I think it might (88W), folks along the coast of LA, MS, AL and the FL panhandle better look out.

It's also scary to think what could happen if we get a storm to pop later in the season in the Bay of Campeche.

If Ivan gets past 88 degrees west, all hell might break loose as far as intensity, shear or no shear.

All of that dark red in the central gulf corresponds to 32 degrees Celsius or 90!!!! degrees Fahrenheit.

shear is more important than water temps when it comes to intensity at this level anyway.

As a hypothetical. if the water temperatures were 100 degrees, would Ivan grow into a massive monster, or is it overkill (law of diminishing returns) after a certain temperature in regards to hurricane strength.

As a side bar, what is the highest recorded sea temperature?

Water temp is important...but you could have 110 degrees and then have shear...and you'de get nothing.

The highest water temps...not sure but they are in the Persian Gulf. They are always above 90 in the summer.

You can always read into the theory of sub-200mb Hypercanes if you'd like.
