housing prices out west?

#1 Postby Windsong » Sun Sep 12, 2004 2:36 pm

So, what would a 2 or 3 bedroom home rent for out west? I need a hurricane break...also, would have to be located in an area with business and/or industry... I was SUPPOSED to be a princess, but I don't know what happened......

where in the West you are talking about-if it's CA, then it will be an arm and a number of other body parts unless you are located well away from a city-same for Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Reno, Lost Wages, Fooey-nix, Tucson, ABQ, ELP (plus Cruces) and Denver.

Hi Steve,

No...not looking for city life. Something rural with a place to work (so I can pay the rent) Something with no hurricanes...I'm DONE.

Windsong,

Come join us in Oklahoma! You won't get a hurricane here! You just have to dodge the tornadoes in the spring... But it's a lot easier than dodging a hurricane! A 2-3 bedroom house will probably rent anywhere from $600 - $900 a month in the Oklahoma City metro area.

If you can handle harsh winters, Wisconsin is a great place to live... I grew up in Oshkosh and it always had that perfect balance between city and country... plenty of jobs within driving distance yet it doesnt feel crowded. Real estate is pretty inexpensive too.

Hey Windsong....seems to me you would love the serenity of the Prescott area of Arizona. $900 to $1500 a month will get you something clean and nice. I have connections up there if you would get serious. Sedona would be outstanding, but cost you double that. Here in parts of north Phoenix where you can "feel" rural, you might be looking at $1600 or so.

would be even better since the rents would be lower but you would have to travel a piece for shopping.

You can live in Palmdale or Lancaster California for cheap, and work in Los Angeles city which is only a 50 min drive away.

I would wish LAX Traffic on would be my worst enemies nor would I recommend the SFO Bay Area or the area around Sacramento.

Another GREAT place to place your roots, Albuequrque New Mexico, Santa Fe New Mexico, Taos New Mexico, ALL 3 are our possible next move at retirement, 2 years away BTW!

Thanks everyone. I will do some more research in those areas. I do not mind snow and cold (preservitive!) and NM sounds good too. Dry heat there right? Wisconson sounds wonderful, and Oaklahoma would be cool (Auntie Em! Uncle Henry! ) California is out though. I like the earth to be under my feet at ALL times LOL!

I really am done living in a sauna and evacuating and all the stuff that goes with it. I was trying to hang in there till my youngest is out of High School (class of 2005) and off to college, but man, I just don't know. Depends on the action in the rest of the season. I will do some reasearch on those places. It's a scarey thing to just pick up and move when you are on your own, but it's even scarier to evacuate and handle damages on your own too.

I wish you the best of luck! I packed my bags from Minnesota and moved to Oklahoma for college, not knowing a soul. It was scary but rewarding at the same time. Now it's 4 years later and I'm settled here permanently. I'm sure you'll be happy whatever you do!

We vacationed in Wisconsin two years ago and as a child my dad's family had a family reunion every summer there (cabins, fishing/boating lake, etc.). WI is beautiful! Clean air, pine trees, nice folks. I can only imagine what it looks like in winter (I love snow).

That's my 2 cents on Wisconsin!
