Greater New Orleans Conference Call at 10:00AM

#1 Postby Sean in New Orleans » Mon Sep 13, 2004 7:09 am

Just heard on WWL-TV that Greater New Orleans officials will have a conference call at 10:00 AM to evaluate the situation and decide on emergency procedures. I would expect, after this conference call, that an evacuation of the metropolitan area will be announced....stay tuned. I will be at work for the conference call, today. I'm sure my employer will be in on the conference call as it is a leading employer in New Orleans with over 6,000 employees (most of which are employed Downtown).

I work at a local university. Wonder when they'll make the call to cancel classes and let everyone who wants to, flee. There's also tons of out-of-town students to worry about evacuating or sheltering.

I work at a mid-city university and if history has been a guide they'll cancel classes just in time for everyone to drown.

To hell with that, I have annual leave and am not afraid to use it.

I'm at work too in the CBD. Anxiously waiting to hear what the authorities plans will be.

I work at that University that's in its second year of a new football program and doing very well.... and since they are not in New Orleans.... I'm sure they'll be the last to make a decision. I live in what I found is an evacuation area and I can see my family all leaving town, while I stay to give an exam tomorrow night....

HoumaLa I'd expect a Hurricane watch to be issued sometime tonight or tomorrow.

The latest advisory as of 11 AM EDT said that watches would go up along the northern and NE Gulf later today or tonight.

I haven't heard anything yet---I'm on my lunch break...they are probably still discussing the situation. It's not easy evacuating 1.5 million people around New Orleans and the other 750,000 in the region of SE Lousiana.
