I am a complete novice here, so please indulge this stupid question! I have been keeping very close tabs on the computer models all summer. The models are really inconsistent. Although they are not "official products," they are the closest things to planning tools that I can find, since the NHC doesn't seem to predict hurricane paths more than a few days out. Plus, no one ever says where they think the hurricane is going until after it has hit land. I was wondering if you guys can rate the models for me, in terms of past performance? Which has been the best so far? The worst? Ya'll allude to this from time to time, but I've never seen the models rated in this way. Thanks!
p.s. Here is my million dollar (!) fundraising idea. After this hurricane season is over, someone should write "Meteorology for Dummies," or maybe "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Weather." There is obviously an interest out there! And make sure there is a really long chapter on the tropics, of course.
