PENSACOLA weather....current

#1 Postby team1fla » Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:48 pm

Just stepped outside and thought I would give an update on weather here. Hopefully others will report on P'cola weather as IVAN advances. Could be interesting to see how weather changes as Ivan approaches.

Currently the skies are crystal clear at 11:40 pm CST , stars are very visible in the sky, no moon visible, low humidity and a slight Northeast wind 15 miles inland. Feels somewhat autumn like.

I'll jump on this for the North Carolina locals. I have a rain gauge I'll update the current amount every 12 hours starting tomorrow. I looked at the 7 day forcast for us, we have rain in it everyday. Might change with the new path of Ivan.

First post

I live in Pace, FL and it is the same but in 36 to 48 hours it will be very bad.

I am so confused by all the back and forth predictions of where Ivan will make landfall. My gut feeling is Orange Beach area with a NE track which will put the eyewall just about over my backyard. I did not bother boarding up windows as I feel it will be a waste of time if we get a direct hit (plus there was no plywood). We are packing up pictures and heading up to my parents in Alabama.

May God watch over everyone in Ivan's path.

I went to Lowe's on Saturday afternoon to buy some non-hurricane related stuff and they were already sold out of:

Plywood
OSB
Plylox clips
Generators
Gas Cans

So many deliveries in the past week have been diverted, rightly so, to our neighbors in the peninsula and who would have known that we would need those same supplies here this week? A tough month for Floridians.

Actually, it would depend on what type of plyboard. I just looked some up and it is based on size and type but......
12224 1/4" 4X8 BC PINE EXTERIOR $11.99

12231 11/32" 4X8 BC PINE ULX EXTERIOR $16.49

12227 15/32" 4X8 BC PINE ULX EXTERIOR $21.58

12229 23/32" 4X8 BC PINE ULX EXTERIOR $28.95
This is according to Lowes on line.........

Based on the current speed and forecast, should not become stormy until late tomorrow night into Wednesday. Of course, that is based on NHC guidance. It seems their forecasting is always a little fast, perhaps on purpose, so we will see.

This is the type of storm that will probably get real bad, real fast, once conditions start to deteriorate.

If, and that's a BIG IF, I stay I will be taking wind measurments with my Kestrel 2000 anemometer. I'll try to post every couple of hours if I can, and have power.

Here in Tampa Bay we got the first little shower courtesy of Ivan this evening. It has been increasingly cloudy all day. And remember, we are far from the forecast track at this point.

We paid $40/sheet for plywood for the infamous bookshelf project a couple years back, but that was for the super premium stuff since we were going to stain and not paint the shelves. Cheap grade stuff should be $10/sheet.

I saw a dude with a truck in downtown Ft. Walton selling it for $5/sheet out of the truck bed on Sunday. We assumed it was stolen off a construction site somewhere.

It's a declared state of emergency now, so the anti-price gouging laws have kicked in. Feel free to report suspected price gouging to the FL Department of Consumer Affairs.

Boaters here are definitely moving their boats into the bayous. Rocky Bayou south of the bridge was filling up already when I was heading into work at 2:00 pm today.

You can also add small pet carriers to things you can't find anywhere. Sharon's Barnyard is reportedly getting a shipment of them in some time tommorrow if anyone needs something to crate Fido or Felix in.

Luv NO's......definitely feel for you guys if landfall should go there....P'cola west would suffer to.

Looking for folks in P'cola, Gulf Breeze, Holley, Navarre , Pace, Milton, Cantonment, Beulah, McDavid, Jay, Century and other surrounding areas to report current and/or deteriorating conditions as this storm advances for the benefit of all.

I know my roof is going to blow off.

I'm moving things to the back and wrapping them in plastic.

We are going to be hit.

I can't sit and watch reports anymore.

Listening to WCOA.

Let's just post weather info in our area over the next 24-48 hrs and see how it matches up with the forecast models. May be interesting for all.....
