New Orleans Evacuation Routes

#1 Postby FriscoKid » Tue Sep 14, 2004 11:30 am

If people are planning on leaving they better decide soon. I just left work in the CBD, and the interstate is gridlocked. They are already estimating a minimum of a 5 hour drive to Baton Rouge. They are recommending that if you are heading west, go to Slidell first, then jump on 1-12 and head west. Remember, you can still take HIghway 90, Airline , and even River Road to get out of the city.

Mayor Nagin will not call for a mandatory evacuation because there are too many conventioneers and they have no where to go. Best case scenario for New Orleans at this point looks like Tropical Storm winds. If it keeps shifting west, our outlook deteriorates. Jefferson Parish is not opening shelters, because it is unsafe. I think New Orelans is in the rpocess of determining which shelters they will be opening. The CBD is shutting down, my sister, who is a doctor is on code grey, and everyone seem sto be preparing.
