Question pressure rising east of mississippi river

#1 Postby LSU2001 » Tue Sep 14, 2004 11:54 am

A bouy east of Mississippi river at the following link is showing pressure rising. Does this mean high pressure is building in this area?
Please advise.

Crap I hope not...that would tend to steer Ivan more NW.

Sadly enough I think that is what is happening. I am becoming increasingly concerned again after feeling a tad better this morning about a hit on New Orleans.

I don't like this scenario one bit.

We would really like some professional opinions on this. Is the Florida High rebuilding or is it combining with the LA High and about to turn Ivan a little more westerly in time?

have you done anything to prepare for effects of Ivan, just in case? We are packing stuff inside the house in case of gusts and moving the cars, etc.

It should fall shortly w/ the normal daytime heating. Pressure typically rises at night and falls during the day because of diurnal cooling and heating, respectively.

There is a broad ridge of surface high pressure that extends from New England to TX. The rising pressure you saw earlier most likely had to do w/ all the dry air subsiding behind the TN Valley trough and ahead of the ridge just to your west. The air mass the encompasses Ivan should begin affecting the MS and LA coastlines soon enough - pressures should then fall steadily.

There is a Ridge over La also, combination of both.
