Both he and DT believe the ridge over the eastern U.S. and western Atlantic will strengthen and build significantly in the wake of Ivan and an approaching trough in the western U.S.
Just what we all need, another storm threatening a U.S. landfall!

jeanne and karla will be a east coast storm .
Ivan will make some weakness for the Jeanne to move Northwestward up the east coast . I think Karla will be a hurricane and threat to the east coast. I think jb is wrong with it going into the gulf .

Maybe after hitting the east coast of Florida, but his current thoughts are follow Frances to Florida.jlauderdal wrote:Portastorm wrote:Both he and DT believe the ridge over the eastern U.S. and western Atlantic will strengthen and build significantly in the wake of Ivan and an approaching trough in the western U.S.

model consensus showing turn a few degrees east of FL
It's too early to say for sure what Jeanne will do, of course. A lot depends on where Ivan ends up after landfall. But from what I can see, almost every model (except the ECMWF) forecasts some kind of NW and N turn east of FL by a couple hundred miles at least. This includes the GFS, NOGAPS, UKMET, GFDL and the tropcials. That's a powerful argument that we'll dodge this one ... hopefully. Also, the environment doesn't seem to be as favorable, with some shear forecast at various points in the next 120 hours. And last but not least, Jeanne is going to pass through some of the same waters as Frances. So I doubt there's as much fuel for a seriously strong storm.
That said, it's still early. Give it another 2 days and we'll have a better idea if Jeanne is going to impact Fl, a spot further up the coast, or turn out to sea.

correct on the first part. But, the gulf stream is ripe. frances has nothing to do with jeanne.
