UNC-Asheville Closed

#1 Postby Skywatch_NC » Wed Sep 15, 2004 1:19 pm

Heard from a 2nd yr. met major friend at another wx site that UNC-A will be closing after classes on Thurs. due to Ivan...also, mentioned that the staff didn't know when they'd re-open.

Sounds like a good plan. My mom, in Winston-Salem, was just telling me that parts of I-40 are STILL closed from Frances due to mudslides and rock slides....I feel for those in the Appys, that's for sure!

2 of 3 westbound lanes are open on 40 westbound right now. But the DOT is going to wait until after Ivan before they can diecide how to stabilize the mountainside and open the 3rd lane. Let's hope Ivan dosen't exaggerate the problem.

Dan,

Do you think steel bolts that were installed several years ago into boulders along I-40 would help keep them stable in the event of a possible mudslide?
