I jsut made a similar comment to my husband about his visable presentation- the twisters in the center....

This is like watching a nightmare.

The only difference being that this storm is doing this heading into the continental US.

What else would you expect from a storm with a male name?

Jesus, Gulfport MS all the way to the FL state line will be devastated. I really hope none of you are riding this thing out too close to the coast. Good luck.

looks real good......not as good as "ever".....the solid reds and yellows while down by jamaica was better.

Annular hurricanes tend to be very intense hurricanes with abnormally large eyes, surrounded by a large area of deep convection (CDO) and very little outflow features beyond the CDO.

Recent examples: Alex (I believe... didn't watch him much), Isabel.

No, "annular" is not just a buzzword for maintaining a huge eye.

There are a number of qualitative differences.

Annular--DT over at wxrisk was talking about IVAN being annular, thats why the dry air hardly made him burp...go have a read if you want wxrisk.com...

Isabel was the strongest annular on record. If Ivan qualifies, there's a record that didn't last long.

latest satellite image - it appears as if the deep convection is starting to wrap around the east section of the storm also

No really. Regular hurricanes can transition into annular canes... and vice versa. He certainly wasn't annular anytime in the Caribbean.
