Looking at San Juan radar, it looks as if Jeanne's eye is about ready to exit north central PR back into the Atlantic. The eye and circulation looks surprisingly good, especially when you consider the trek over the mountains and the shear that is evident. SHe also looks to be getting farther north sooner than the models have anticipated. Looking forward to hearing from our friend, Luis.

I just read a report from NWS San Juan issued at 3:50 PM. They mentioned the more northwest movement, but they expect her to resume a west/northwest course soon.

Code: Select all

0320 PM     TROPICAL STORM   4 NE AIBONITO           18.18N 66.22W
09/15/2004                   COMERIO            PR   MESONET

4-HOUR RAINFALL TOTAL OF 9.08 INCHES AT PROYECTO LA
PLATA, PR NEAR RIO DE LA PLATA

That's an amazing amount of rain!! Looks like sooo much more is on the way to the island w/ that extremely intense feeder band just east of the island.

Anyone think Jeanne will do an Isabel and come up the Chesapeake Bay?

Do not even THINK that!!! As my mother-in-law would say..."That is simply unacceptable." We had our share last year.

Anything is possible.
If I lived in the Mid-Atlantic, I'd certainly keep an eye on Jeanne.

we have had 2 days of rain from Jeanne, mostly moderate rain, as she pased 60 miles to our South.
A few hours ago though one of the bands from the back side of Jeanne came over the island and we had a heavy thunder storm. I measured 2.5 inches of rain in my yard in less than 2 hours. All the roads here were flooded out.
I heard on a NYC TV station that 2 people died in PR. I hope that's not true.
I also heard from friends of mine who have family in PR that the whole island is without lights. I don't know if that is true either but I know there are extensive outages there.
I hope Luis is doing ok.

To add to MsBee, we had huge lightning and thunder cracks. This happened Sunday also. It was very intense. Major rain (only 2 leaks !!)
I think it was that blob that came from the south of Jeanne and wrapped around and hit us.
I don't know about flooding. We were hiding in our bedroom with the hurricane shutters pulled shut.

Is there any merit to the thought that as Ivan becomes a near-stationary and infilling low over the southern Appalachians that he could influence Jeanne by tugging her more west through the path of least resistance?

Just an early thought I have about the initial suggestions that Jeanne might veer more north as she approaches Florida.

Just seems that the science equation of the situation would tend to allow Ivan to keep on consuming low level moisture and pull her into the mix.

Lots of variables yet ahead, but this is one hypothesis I will be watching.
