Dauphin Island--hurricane force winds arrive at 10pm

Well...technically, the sustained winds are just shy of hurrican force...with gusts up to 77knots!

I was hopeful a couple of hours ago that a sharp right turn was occurring...but apparently not sharp enough to spare my fair Island.

No word on whether my house has been washed away (yet)

I'm right there with you Rockyman... hoping that DI comes through the storm alright.

We are waiting to see if my parents will be able to spend the month of October down there. My mother is worried there will be nothing left. They were down there just after... I think it was Lili, hit. Even with little lIli, many roads were impassable due to sand.

This bouy south of Dauphin Island seems to be in the eye(look at the drop in wave wave height). It will be interesting to see what happens with the 11:50pmEDT update.

I could be wrong, but from the 11pmEDT 'cane coordinates(29.3N 88.1W) and the bouy coordinates(29.21N 88.20W) it seems close as of an hour ago.

Bastardi on Msnbc said that Dauphin Island and the Island to the East will be restructured from this storm.

My best to you and your home.

Where did those 25 folks stay on DI? Please tell me they were around town center, at least... not the west end!
