This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Jeanne (what Miami meteorologists are saying)

#1 Postby caneseddy » Wed Sep 15, 2004 10:57 pm

I know that it's a bit early to speculate on where Jeanne is going but most of the local mets here are pretty much saying that Jeanne will turn north away from Florida because of Ivan stalling and forcing a weakness in b/w the high over the Atlantic and Ivan that will push it towards the Carolinas

However, one of the local mets (John Morales) from the Univision affiliate here in Miami who was praised for nailing Ivan's path before any other local met had and is the Spanish version of Norcross down here (he said Ivan would be going towards the GOM south of Jamaica last Wednesday when some mets were still sayin]g S Florida would be hit

Anyway, getting to the point..he said tonight that Jeanne's forecast will probably be the toughest this season because of all the uncertainties:

Here is the gist of what he said:

1. He believes that the NHC's path is too far east
2. He believes the high pressure over the Atlantic will push Jeanne WNW for the next few days
3. Jeanne will probably stall over the Bahamas during the weekend, which some other mets have been saying too
4. He says it all depends on where Ivan stalls; if it stalls by the Appalachians/Carolinas there may be a weak passage for Jeanne to turn north; if it stalls south the trough may not pick it up and the high pressure he sees coming from the west may link up with the current high pressure and push Jeanne west

Now not to say he is right or wrong, but he has been the only met who has nailed Charley, Frances, Ivan far out so I put faith in him but I'm not going rush over to get supplies...i'll just see what happens

I don't mean to sound like I know everything but all the people and Mets in Florida are gonna have their senses saying it is coming there because of what has happened this season. I have seen the models or atleast some and they suggest that they don't know so it is hard for anyone to speculate where it is going at the moment until they see what Ivan does......
