Great photo of this on CNN website. I find it hard to believe that a semi was actually on this high bridge during the storm. High profile High bridge he is lucky he didn't just blow off the thing!

Check out what's left of that tractor trailer, too, on that I-10 bridge area.

He probably doesn't want to be found. Do you know how much trouble he'd be in with his boss for being out and trying to get across a bridge in a hurricane!!! Geez...

In all seriousness, for him/her and the loved ones, I hope s/he is ok....

I was getting ready to say that was one of the highways leading from I-10 to Pensacola and not I-10, but the Pensacola News Journal says its a quarter mile section of I-10 eastbound.

In all likelyhood the driver was doing what he was dispatched to do. My brother is a driver and he was dispatched to south east Florida the day before Francis made landfall and is now heading into Georgia today.

That'll be a fun detour to get around

You know that rig could have broken down or pulled over way before Ivan and they just didn't have time to get the truck off the bridge! Let's hope that is all it is! Could also be, he/she dropped the trailer because of another problem and just bob-tailed right off that bridge to safety. May have even been an empty trailer to begin with making it even harder to drive in wind. Jus sayin!

Depends on the condition of other bridges/roads. The logical detour is Garcon Point Bridge to US 98 in Gulf Breeze across the three mile/Pensacola Bay bridge to I-110. Not too bad if condtions are good. The problematic part is US 98 on the peninsula there.

We had to drop a ton of gasoline loads yesterday because of Ivan. drivers were wishing to get out of town and we obliged. Putting drivers in this kind of risk for the sake of the quota is not something we would do. This truck is a great example of hwat can go wrong.

You are exactly right. My mother delivers blood and driving in the middle of a hurricane. The state police and powers that be were waiting for her, watching her slide back and forth across that bridge. She was doing what was needed.

MSNBC has been showing video of the I-10 bridge with the truck (or what's left of it).

I heard that the US 90 bridge was damaged too. Pensacola was devestated from this storm.

I am always glad to hear of the companies who put the drivers wellbeing as a priority! However it doesn't seem all drivers are that fortunate. The company my brother drives for is a company located in Jacksonville and they don't consider weather in their dispatches there is almost always no excuse for a late load. They have to drive in high winds heavy rains and snow/ ice

Just think though... if that trucker's not dead, he'll be able to write one hell of a book!
