Jeanne - Westward movement = Florida threat

#1 Postby stormernie » Thu Sep 16, 2004 11:27 am

The continue westward movement of Jeanne is increasing the threat to Florida. However, I will be quick to point out that if the track continues than there is a high likelihood that Jeanne may not survive the rough terrain of Hispaniola.

The westward movement is indicative of the strength of the Bermuda High and the overall pattern that is being forecast by the FSU model. Time will tell but the westward movement continues and there is no indication that this is going to change anytime soon.

As always comments are welcome.

Hey Ernie.. It's forecast to begin moving NW or WNW.. I agree about the threat to Florida.. but I also think the storm will stay a TS and regain hurricane strength if she weakens..

Hi, I was wondering if there is a site where one can see the FSU model?

If Jeanne just moves over the extreme northern part of Hispanola which it is forecast to do by the NHC, then Jeanne will not be destroyed. The heavy mountainous terrain is not that far up north in Hispanola so it wont kill it off completely. However I do expect some weakening to occur. If this keeps on moving westward then the threat to Florida increases the longer it goes west. However Im not ready to call it a Florida storm just yet because I remember in 2000, Hurricane Debby very very well. It too was in an extremely similar situation to where Jeanne is right now and Debby was forecast by the NHC to be nearing the South Florida coast as a Cat2/3 storm but obviously it was torn apart by Hispanola before it had the chance to come our way. Until Jeanne moves away from Hispanola will I really begin to pay attention to it.

The High is so strong that it is tracking right down the spine of Hispaniola. This should wipe it out. Even if it has remnants they should go into Cuba on this low-track.

This little strong storm was compact. I believe if the Antilles weren't there a Florida landfall of another strong hurricane was inevitable...

you didnt see my posts yesterday about my feelings on jeanne..she survives DR its a florida deal. models have been way off on the ridges. we shall see. i couldnt believe roland not showing the 5 day cone and than admitting we were in it he just didnt want to show it. thats like telling someone you have a secret and then telling them what it is. i think its time to see what elita on channel 7 in the am has to say..jackie johnson is nothing but a faded old memory now...good riddance jackie, hello elita. enjoy LA jackie, pretty faces are easy to replace.

I only remember Debby too well... August 22, 2000 mom and I were shopping for supplies at Publix then Walmart and she was having what she thought was heartburn. Yeah it was heartburn allright, mom has having a Heart Attack... that was enough to go through that the time, so happy that Debby never hit, I would not have been able to handle that at the same time... I miss you mom.
ps.. mom passed away exactly one month later Sept 22.
