Jeanne to end up in the Gulf of Mexico, and is moving over the water between the cool wake from Hurricane Frances. Could be a major threat to the US. He is 90% sure it will hit the USA. He also said it is looking better as it crosses land, so when it gets off over water, it will quickly intensify.

Yeah, his video today showed a model (US?) that appeared to back Ivan into the Gulf with Jeanne heading out toward the Carolinas. But when adjusted, it was almost like the remnants of Ivan could be around for an intersection with Jeanne. This is a confounding pattern to me. I understand the western trof, the major eastern ridge, but how the two tropical entities are going to interact with the pattern has had me in a flux since yesterday.
Hopefully Purdue, Derek, AFM or 57 can put something out.

Well, if the past is any indication of the future, the GFS and GFS-based models are too far to the right with Jeanne. I, too, am under the impression that the ever-persistent Eastern ridge (it took forever to get there, and it is in no mood to get out apparently) will help slowly back Jeanne into the Gulf. Whether it gets there via FL or the FL straits/Keys, I don't yet know, but either is equally likely at this time. I prefer to wait and see how far north and east Ivan gets before stalling to see exactly where I think Jeanne can go. If Jeanne does stay south of Frances' path, there is plenty of warm, virgin water to provide fuel to the fire. Of course, the large land mass of Hispaniola and eventually Cuba will put some sort of cap on major development, but Jeanne could still become a formidable beast that looks to affect the US within the next 7 - 10 days. She is also quite a small storm, and we know how fast they can get their act together (ahem...Charley). That's my 2 cents for now.

Thanks Purdue. I guess I'm in the same boat in having to wait and see what happens with Ivan's remants. It's possible some of the energy could split which may be what some of the models are alluding to. But to me, Jeanne is the first really challenging storm to forecast so far this year. There were some issues of a few hundred miles here or there with the long trackers and close in developments, but Jeanne provides a unique problem. I'm looking forward to your future comments.

I am so finished with cane season. Tired of it. I'm tired of looking at satellite loops, radar, hearing about evacuations and closings.
ENOUGH!
I got so sick of looking at Ivan yesterday I almost broke the TV.

Respectfully Floyd, I admire your honesty, but for quite a number of people in the Gulf South, the Southeast and Florida, their feelings regarding the current tropical season are similar to the way you folks up in Ohio and points north feel about snowstorms and bitter cold come mid-February: ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!~Floydbuster wrote:I am not tired of it yet... almost... but no quite yet.

Seems like this cane season wants to make sure EVERYBODY gets their share of the pie. Florida, Carolinas, Coastal AL/FL Panhandle...
