Spousal unit talked to an area firefighter who lives in our neighborhood when he went out for a walk earlier. The vulnerable to surge Holiday Isle section of Destin south of the Destin Harbor is reportedly buried under three feet of sand now. Other damage was reported in Destin, but no details available yet.

Haven't heard anything on DeFuniak, and for that location (far from water, but in tornado area) no news is good news.

WEAR has a report from the SRIA head. Damage on Pensacola Beach is 2-3X worse than Opal. Bridge and road damage is extensive. On the bright side, the new construction codes are working. Lots of the newer homes and businesses reportedly look to have made it through with minor damage while older structures next to them had severe/catastrophic damage.

Gulf Breeze peninsula is a mess. No word on how soon they'll get power and water back. Lots of utility poles down, and the area is accessable only on Hwy 87 at this time because of damage to the aprroaches to the Garcon Point and Pensacola Bay Bridges.

That means every major bridge in the Pensacola Metro area was damaged enough to be shut down. That trip to GB is 70 mi one way from P'cola when the other bridges are in good repair. Looks like they may have to set up a ferry system for the beach. Very food friend of 50 years lives and teaches on the beach. She evaced to MS with family as far as I know. I hope her house is still standing. I'm sure the school is severly damaged again. It was during Opal.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but for anyone looking for reports from specific areas around Pensacola, Pensacola News Journal has a forum where people are posting and requesting info on their areas.

Talked to my grandmother in Pensacola today, off of Olive Rd, they got water back today, but are being told may take 2-3 months to get everyones power restored! EEEKKK...I was going to take her a generator this weekend, but I don't know if I will be able to even get to Pensacola now with all the road closures.

As for Fort Morgan info--
They showed an aerial flyover earlier on the news. Surprisingly, most of the homes on Fort Morgan peninsula were there and appeared to be intact. It was once they passed The Spot (at the end of Highway 59) in Gulf Shores that it really started looking bad. It seems quite clear where Ivan's eyewall passed.

Since the 2 owners are Floridians I'd advise you to watch blanket statements. Trolls don't last long here....
